BLOOMINGTON — Leo O. Stoeber, 90, of Bloomington passed away at 4:47 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 9, 2010) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church, 311 N. Hershey, Normal. The Rev. Philip Kaufmann will officiate. Entombment will be in Park Hill Mausoleum, Bloomington, with military rites accorded at the mausoleum chapel. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Normal.
Leo was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Belleville, the son of Herman J. and Clara Ann Goepfert Stoeber. He married Esther Lucille Nitzel in 1943. She preceded him in death. He later married Constance Short Knox in 1983, in Normal. She passed away May 12, 2003.
Surviving are two sons, Jerome (Virginia) Stoeber, Bloomington; and Thomas (Vida) Stoeber, Union City, Calif.; three brothers, Stanley (Donna) Stoeber, Yucaipa, Calif.; Dennis Stoeber, Belleville; and Roger (Bernice) Stoeber, San Bonita, Texas; two sisters, Sarah Joellenbeck, Woodland, Calif.; and Sharon (Randy) Peebles, Herculaneum, Mo; and five grandchildren, Alex, Amie, Jennifer, Andrew and Lianne.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter and one brother.
Mr. Stoeber was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Normal, where he was an Elder, usher and Sunday school teacher. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1939 to 1945. He attained the rank of captain. He served in Italy. He received his B.S. in agricultural engineering in 1949 from the University of Illinois. He was a salesman of agriculture equipment.
