BELLFLOWER — Leota E. Smith, 99, Bellflower, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 24, 2013) at Gibson Area Hospital Annex.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Bellflower Community Center, with the Rev. Jim Boswell officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the community center.
Memorials may be made to Bellflower Christian Church or to Gibson Area Hospital Annex. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, is in charge of arrangements.
Leota was born Jan. 9, 1914, near Ovid, Mich., a daughter of John Henry and Hattie Caroline Schalk Smith.

Survivors include one sister, Ruth C. Stevenson, Franklin, Ind.; five nieces; three nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother; one sister, Dorothy M. Haning, McLean; and one brother, Richard J. Smith, Robinson.
Miss Smith earned her master’s degree from Illinois State Normal University. She was an elementary grade school teacher for 40 years in Bellflower. Miss Smith was also a founding member of the Lambda Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honor Society for Women Educators. She also served as an officer for many years for the Bellflower Genealogical and Historical Society.
Miss Smith was a member of Bellflower Christian Church and the Ladies Aid of the church.
Miss Smith was a beloved member of the community. Her family and friends will dearly miss her.
