BLOOMINGTON — Leta A. Alsene, 89, Bloomington, died at midnight Tuesday (May 3, 2011) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center Normal.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mennonite Church of Normal, with the Rev. Tim Schrag officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

She was born Nov. 18, 1921, at Congerville, daughter of John D. and Madie L. Oesch Walter. She married Elmer A. Alsene on July 28, 1946, at Congerville. Elmer passed away March 28, 2000.
Surviving are her children, Elmer D. (Bonny) Alsene, Bloomington; Walter L. (Vickie) Alsene, Ottawa; Mark Alsene, Bloomington; and Cheryl (William) Lutz, Lexington; five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Chris) Thrush, Ottawa; Karen (Chris) Alsene-Bryant, Mundelein; Andrew (Sarah) Alsene, Ottawa; Kevin (Corina) Alsene, Potomac; and Carie (Mike) Dawson, Bloomington; five stepgrandchildren, Mary (Lloyd) Buckley, Warrensburg; and Angie Scott, Joe (Chandra) Scott, Sandy Wilburn and Georgia (Scott) Duncan, all of Bloomington; and 18 great-grandchildren. Leta is also survived by her faithful companion, her dog Shadow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and one brother.
Leta was a member of the Mennonite Church of Normal. She was employed by Mennonite Hospital, retiring after 19 years. After her retirement, she volunteered at Crossroads Global Handcrafts in Bloomington.
She enjoyed gardening.
Leta liked to read, especially her Bible. She lived her life for her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
