ANCHOR - Lyle Edward Riecks, 89, of Sun Prairie, Wis., formerly of Anchor, died at 8 a.m. Thursday (June 14, 2007) at Hospice Care Center, Madison, Wis.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Anchor, with full military rites accorded by the Davis-Kerber American Legion Post, Colfax. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

He was born May 10, 1918, at Anchor, a son of Fred and Emma Friday Riecks. He married Joyce Jacobs on Oct. 17, 1948, at Bloomington. She died Aug. 10, 1985.

He also is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Irene Kennedy.

Surviving are a son, Steven (Priscilla Horine) Riecks, Cottage Grove, Wis.; three grandchildren, Melinda (Scott) Westphal, McFarland, Wis.; Julie Riecks, Walnut Creek, Calif.; and Anne Riecks, Cottage Grove, Wis.; one great-grandson, Kaden Westphal; and one brother, Eugene (Gerry) Riecks, Anchor.

He was a graduate of Anchor Township High School. He had been employed at M & W Gear, Gibson City, for 33 years and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor. He was a veteran of World War II, achieving the rank of tech sergeant. He was stationed stateside and in Alaska. He had lifelong friends in and around Anchor, his new community of friends in Wisconsin, and his family will miss his caring and friendly spirit.

The family suggests memorial offerings be given to the Lyle E. Riecks memorial fund.
