WELDON - Marie E. White, 90, of Champaign, formerly of Weldon, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday (Feb. 17, 2006) at Champaign Manor Care.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Monticello, Father Patrick DeMeulemeester officiating. Burial will be in Weldon Cemetery, Weldon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Trigg and Calvert Weldon Chapel, Weldon, with the Rosary at 4:45 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Weldon Lions Club or Weldon Public Library.
She was born April 12, 1915, in Weldon, the daughter of Clifford E. and Eleanor C. Henson Edwards. She married Edward Carlyle White on Sept. 18, 1941, in Cahokia, Mo. Edward passed away Dec. 2, 1973.
Survivors include one brother, Ron (Donna) Edwards, Champaign; three sisters: Margaret M. Salzer, East Peoria; Agnes C. Dawson, Farmer City; and Sally Swarts, Cisco; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Edward Michael White, on Dec. 21, 1994; and two brothers.
She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, Monticello. She was also a member of the National Society of DAR Pilot Rock Chapter-Cherokee, Iowa, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 1049, Weldon. She was the village clerk and treasurer, Weldon. She was a member of the board for the Weldon Public Library. She retired in 1976 after 28 years as secretary for the DeLand-Weldon School District. After retiring, she was a bookkeeper for Robert Sprague for 24 years. She assisted her son, Mike, in running the Weldon Cafe for many years.
