NORMAL — Melanie A. Johnson, 64, of Normal passed peacefully in her sleep into eternal life on April 8, 2017, at her home. A celebration of her life will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Eastview Christian Church in Normal.
She was born Oct. 20, 1952, in Morrilton, Ark., a daughter of Thomas and Clara Jackson Moore. She was devoted to God and her family, a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend.
Surviving are her beloved children, Chelseanna N. Gilmer, Chelsey D. Johnson and Erron G. Gilmer, Jessica McGhee and husband, James; brother, Van Moore and wife, Erin; sister, Stephanie Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two special friends, Barry Gilmer and Linda Newberry.
Melanie was employed as a case worker for the State of Illinois for 18 years and she believed God called her to serve others in this way. She was an active member of Eastview Christian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, decorating and cooking. Her smile was contagious and her arms were open wide to everyone at all times.
