Michael “Mike” Macesich, 89, of Normal, passed away 7:25 a.m. Dec. 19, 2017, at his home.

His funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Normal, 211 N. School St., Normal. The Rev. Kim Burke will officiate. Private family burial will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, First United Methodist Church, Home Sweet Home Ministries or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.

Michael was born June 26, 1928, in East Chicago, Ind., the son of George and Mary Krivokuca Macesich. He married Jean Jahnke on March 6, 1976, at First United Methodist Church of Normal. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael G. (Kathy), McLean, Va., and Mark (Jasmina), Chicago; a daughter, Nancy Ann Macesich Elder, Normal; and three grandchildren, Michael David Macesich, Erin and Ryan Elder.

Also surviving are one sister, Kathryn "Kay" Bokun, Indiana; sister-in-law, Carol Nygaard, Bloomington; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Jeannie Jahnke, Tennessee; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David V. Macesich; and three sisters, Ann Cavallo, Betty Zych and Mildred Pieramico.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948 on Guam. He taught in the East Chicago School System from 1952 to 1962. Michael was on the staff of University High School from 1962 until retirement in 1983. He taught chemistry and was also freshman basketball coach and cross country coach.

Michael was a member of First United Methodist Church, Normal.
