PONTIAC - Muriel Allen Pierce, 96, Pontiac, died at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 15, 2006) at her home.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Pontiac, with the Rev. Beckie Linn Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in South Side Cemetery in Pontiac.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Pontiac, and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church, (Disciples of Christ) in Pontiac.
Muriel was born April 30, 1909, in Pontiac, a daughter of Royal A. and Vina Ferguson Allen. She was a 1928 graduate of Pontiac Township High School. On June 24, 1934, she married Clyde E. Pierce at Pontiac. He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1987.
Surviving are her son, Mark Allen (Cindy) Pierce, Pontiac; two grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Weber, LaGrange, and Eric (Nicole) Pierce, Bloomington; three great-grandsons, Pierce and Cass Weber and Saegen Pierce; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were a son in infancy and her sister, Ruth Holzhauer.
She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she had served as a deaconess and an elder. For more than 50 years, she had been a member of the church choir. She was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship and also of Church Women United. An avid artist for more than 60 years, she had been a member of the Amity Town Painters. She also was a member of AARP; the Pontiac Women's Club for many years; and a longtime member of the Livingston County Community Concert Association.
Her greatest joys were her church, her family, her friends, her beloved Chicago Cubs and the fact that she was a descendent of the Allen Family Candy Co. at Pontiac.
