BLOOMINGTON — Nancy J. Eckert, 78, Bloomington, formerly of 1111 Broadway, Normal, died Sunday (Dec. 4, 2005) at ManorCare Health Services, Normal.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, Bloomington. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the memorial home. The Rev. Bill Barton will officiate. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Memorials may be made to The Home Sweet Home Ministries Woman's Auxiliary, 310 N. Main St., Bloomington, IL 61701, in her memory.
Nancy was born July 16, 1927, in Chicago, the daughter of Howard C. and Grace Symons Clapp. Her father died in 1928 and her mother married Archibald J. Osborn in 1934 who became Nancy's stepfather. Nancy married Albert H. Eckert on Dec 6, 1947, in Danville.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Albert H. Eckert of Bloomington; six children, James (Sharon) Eckert of Colfax; Grace L. Eckert and Carol A. Eckert, both of Sharon, Tenn.; Susan E. (Jeffrey) Dessa of Normal; John M. Eckert of Springfield; and Martha J. Eckert of Bloomington; stepsister, Milbra Osborn Brady of West Lafayette, Ind.; and grandchildren, James R. Eckert Jr. of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; Grace E. Dessa of Nicaragua; Elizabeth "Pepper" E. Barney of England; and Kate E. Dessa of Normal.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one stepsister, Jane Myer.
She was educated in Danville and completed three years at Eastern Illinois University. She was a stay-at-home mom and was active in Home Bureau; Sheridan, Metcalf and U High PTAs; Home Sweet Home Mission Auxiliary; and was very active in church all her life. She taught Sunday school for over 35 years starting at the age of 15. She was a member of the North Bridge Baptist Church, formerly the First American Baptist Church of Normal.
Nancy dedicated her life to helping others. She was a kind and gentle soul who was loved by all.
