NORMAL — Norma Jean Scybert, 79, Normal, passed away at 11:41 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 3, 2011) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
A private family memorial service will be Friday, with the Rev. Dean Kladder officiating. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
Norma Jean was born May 25, 1932, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Herbert D. and Mary Rose Mielke.
She married Robert Dean Scybert on Sept. 16, 1950. He survives.
She is survived by her children, Bob (Margie), Effingham; Mike (Debbie), Bloomington; Pam Theis, St. Peters, Mo.; and Gregg (Connie Shields) and Tim, both of Normal; five grandchildren, Julia (Eric) Chojnicki; Sarah (Chris) Shaw; Brian and Christopher Scybert; and Gillian Theis; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert D. Mielke, Porter, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
Norma Jean was the former owner of the Knit-n-Needle and co-owner of Randall’s-Ben Franklin Variety Store, both located in downtown Normal.
Norma Jean was an accomplished seamstress as well as in the various arts and crafts.
She was extremely proud of her children’s and grandchildren’s achievements and served as the foundation which kept her family together.
Norma Jean was a loving wife and mother and always put others above herself. She will be truly missed by all.
