BLOOMINGTON - Patricia Monfort Whikehart, 78, of 1509 N. Calhoun St., Bloomington, formerly 306 E. Cypress St, Normal, died at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 8, 2006) at ASTA Care Center, Bloomington.
Her private memorial service will be at Beck Memorial home, Bloomington, her son, David Whikehart, will officiate. Private inurnment will be at a later date. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston, Mass., or Home Sweet Home Mission, Bloomington.
She was born March 16, 1927, at New York City, N.Y., to William Leon and Beatrice Glenn Van Patten Monfort. She married Lewis E. Whikehart June 21, 1947, at Oberlin, Ohio.
Surviving are one son, David (Judy) Whikehart, Bloomington; two daughters, Jocelyn and Paula Whikehart, Normal; two grandchildren, Amy and Jenna Whikehart, Bloomington.
Her parents preceded her in death.
She was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Bloomington.
Dr. Whikehart had attended Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Oberlin, Ohio. In 1948 she graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., with a bachelor degree in Music. In 1950 she received her master degree in Music from Union Theological Seminary School of Sacred Music, New York City, N.Y. She later received her doctorate of Musical Arts in Organ Performance and Pedagogy in 1979 from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. She was an associate professor in the Music Department at Illinois State University and taught organ, piano and harpsichord from 1966-1989. She took a sabatical leave to study organ in France with Marie Claire Alain in 1984. Dr. Whikehart's professional organizations included The American Guild of Organists; Organ Historical Society; Music Teachers National Association; Illinois State Music Teachers Association; and Sigma Alpha Iota-Patroness. Dr. Whikehart was a substitute organist for The First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston, Mass.
