BLOOMINGTON — Phyllis Sue Mockert Scharf, 85, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Bloomington, passed away on Dec. 22, 2010.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Scottsdale Artists’ School, 3720 N. Marshall Way, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. An opportunity to see Phyllis Sue’s art will follow. Family may be contacted through the school.

Phyllis was born on April 23, 1925, the only child of Isa Skinner and Paul Mockert. Phyllis grew up in Bloomington and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1943. She was lifelong friends with several classmates.
She pursued her art interests as a Tri Delta at the University of Illinois, where she met her husband, recently returned from Philippine naval duty during World War II. She set up as a housewife in Elgin. The family moved to Scottsdale in the early 1960s.
Phyllis Sue loved caring for her family and teaching art at Devereux and Kachina day schools. She loved to hike Camelback Mountain and swim at Mountain Shadows, where she was a member. She had a ready smile, a good ear and a unique sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by husband, Albert Scharf.
She will be truly missed by daughters, Rebecca and Kerrie; and grandchildren, Amy (Jon) and son, Jarrod; and Libby, Ryan and Sara.
