 STREATOR - Regina Payne, 85, of Streator died Friday morning (December 23, 2005) at her daughter's home in Freeport.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Streator. Msgr. Jerome Ham will officiate. Music will be provided by the St. Anthony Adult Choir under the direction of Jean Drendel. Songs will include, "Ave Maria," "Peace Prayer of St. Francis," "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "Let There Be Peace On Earth."

A visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Solon, Baker & Telford Funeral Home, Streator. A secular Franciscan service will be at 3 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.

Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be sons: Ken, John and Richard Payne; sons-in-law: Ray Moss, Ken Brookman and Keith Moffatt. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Julie Moss-Johnson; Beth, Dave, Mike, Steve and Amy Moss; Angie Read; Sara Moffatt; Josh and Bryan Payne; Holly, Joe and Adam Payne; and Ben and Kelly Payne; and great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Saxon Read; Malia and Marin Moss; and Caleb and Kayla Moss. Also serving as honorary pallbearers are special neighbors, Jim McLaughlin and Dan "PeeWee" Lynch.

Regina was born Oct. 17, 1920, in Streator to Andrew and Clara (Stritchko) Elias. She married Glenn B. Payne on May 17, 1941, at St. Stephen's Rectory in Streator. He died Oct. 25, 2004.

She is survived by children, Janice (Ray) Moss, Freeport; Carol (Kenneth) Brookman, Ottawa; Kathy (Keith) Moffatt, Freeport; Kenneth (Mary) Payne, Lima, Ohio; John (Deb) Payne, Bloomington; and Richard (Robin) Payne, Gurnee; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard (Betty) Elias, Sun City Center, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Christina Bonchik, Irene J. Wargo and Margaret Yurch; and brothers, Edward and Frank Elias.

She resided in Streator all of her life and was very active with her church. She and her husband were the recipients of the Pere Marquette Award in 2003 from the Peoria Diocese for their dedication and service to their church.

She attended St. Stephen's Grade School and Streator Township High School.

She worked for St. Anthony's Rectory and had also worked at Guzzardo's in Streator.

She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister and was formerly a member of the church choir. She also belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society of her church and the Secular Franciscan Order. She was a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital and was formerly active with the Chirp program. She was instrumental in starting the St. Anthony Euchre Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Anthony's Church or Freeport Health Network Hospice.
