BLOOMINGTON - The Rev. Carl O. Bickel, longtime pastor of the United Parish of Bowie, Md. (Presbyterian USA and United Church of Christ), died Feb. 11, 2006, in Annapolis, Md., after a lengthy illness. He was 69.
Mr. Bickel was born and raised in Bloomington. One of his first jobs was as a paperboy for The Daily Pantagraph.
He was called to the United Parish of Bowie in October 1973. Mr. Bickel was also a certified pastoral counselor. He was heavily involved in community and regional church activities.
Beloved husband of Shirley Klotz Bickel; loving father of Eric (Dina), Kensington, Md.; Chadwick (Rebecca), Crofton, Md.; Matthew (Christine), Bowie, Md.; and Charissa Bickel, Towson, Md.; brother of George Bickel, Wheaton; and grandfather of four.
A service of thanksgiving and praise was Friday at the Christian Community Church in Bowie. Interment was in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery, Bowie.
