BLOOMINGTON — Robert L. “Roy” Gray Jr., 80, of Bloomington died at 9:55 a.m. Friday (April 27, 2012) at Heritage Health, Bloomington, with his wife and brother-in-law by his side.
A visitation celebrating Roy’s life will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Inurnment will be in Mesopotamia Cemetery, Eutaw, Ala. The family suggests memorials be made to the Community Cancer Center, Normal, or to Heritage Health, Bloomington.
Roy was born Feb. 28, 1932, in Eutaw, Ala., the son of Robert L. and Mae Henderson Gray Sr. He married Linda A. Bye on July 11, 1987, in Prattville, Ala. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Connie (Ron) McCombs, McLean; David (Judy) Gray, Forrest; Lisa (Bill) Hinthorne, Crawfordville, Fla; six grandchildren; two brothers, W.D. (Peggy) Gray, Montgomery, Ala.; and J.E. (Bobbie) Gray, Deatsville, Ala.; one sister, Maryann (Frank) Daniel, Columbus, Miss.; and brother-in-law, Robert (Mary Ann) Bye, Bloomington.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Dale; and three sisters, Carol; Beatrice; and Jane.
Roy retired from GM&O Railroad. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1955. Roy attended the University of Alabama on a football scholarship his freshman year. He and Linda enjoyed going out and listening to country music. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and a Crimson Tide of Alabama fan. He was a life member of the VFW Post 454 and Bloomington Moose Lodge 745.
