FAIRBURY - Robert Lewis Ficklin, 90, Fairbury, died Dec. 7, 2005, in Palm Springs, Calif., of natural causes.
He was born July 28, 1915, to Walter Colquitt Ficklin and Mamie Beach Lewis in Madera, Calif. He married Betty Jordan Ficklin on July 27, 1947, in Danville.
Bob was a farmer for more than 40 years and pursued his lifelong interest in flying until an advanced age. For many years, he was a member of the Illinois Flying Farmers, International Flying Farmers and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
During World War II, he served as a Navy pilot (lieutenant) from April 1942 to January 1946.
Bob is survived by two sons, Thomas Lewis Ficklin, Seattle, Wash., and Robert Jordan Ficklin, Palm Springs, Calif.; and one granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Ficklin, Everett, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty; his parents; two brothers; and two sisters. Bob will be fondly remembered for his enthusiasm for life, flying, travel, food and wine.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, 100 W. Maple, Fairbury. A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family.
The family suggests memorial gifts be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
