BLOOMINGTON - Roma L. Newby McCue, 91, of 700 E. Walnut St., Bloomington, died at 7:20 a.m. Friday (June 15, 2007) at Heritage Manor, Bloomington, where she had been a resident for the past seven years.
Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, the Rev. Richard Gray officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the memorial home and for one hour before services on Monday.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Normal, or Green Meadows Girl Scout Council.
She was born Feb. 14, 1916, in Randolph Township, McLean County, to George S. and Birdie Duggins Downs. She married Robert A. Newby on Sept. 26, 1937, at Covington, Ind. Robert passed away Jan. 24, 1970. She later married Charlie R. McCue on July 11, 1982, at Normal. Charlie passed away Nov. 25, 1988.
Surviving are two daughters, Lois E. (Sam) Bradstreet of Bloomington and D. Darlene (Larry) Johnson of Champaign; six grandchildren, Trish (John) Heimerdinger of Bloomington; Tim (Missy) Bradstreet of Escondido, Calif.; Bob (Amanda) Bradstreet of East Peoria; Lori Donovan and Matt Johnson, both of Champaign; and Phil (Carla) Harper of Mahomet; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Render of Bloomington and Betty (John) Thomas of Heyworth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George, Eugene and David Downs; and three sisters, Fern Downs, Martha Reed and Dorothy Smith.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Normal; a 50-year member of the Eastern Star in Paxton; Thursday Afternoon History Club; Home Extension; and was the Downs Family Historian. She attended Brown's Business College. She was employed in the circulation department of the Pantagraph, retiring in 1980.
