Rosella C. “Rosie” Duffy, 90, Pontiac, died at 10:37 a.m. Sunday (March 4, 2018) at Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Pontiac, with Father David Sabel officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Pontiac. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, with the rosary at 3:30 p.m.
She was born July 28, 1927, in Pontiac, daughter of Matthew L. and Rebecca E. Mowry Nolan. She married James Francis Duffy on June 22, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Pontiac. He survives in Pontiac.
Also surviving are children, Joseph F. (Janet) Duffy, Metamora, and Steven G. (Joan) Duffy, Pontiac; sister, Rita Nolan Tibbs, Pontiac; and grandchildren, Jessica (Rob) King, Janelle Duffy, Katherine Duffy and Kevin Duffy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo Nolan, Francis Nolan, Mattie Nolan and Jim Nolan; and sisters, Mary Mies and Margaret Somers.
She was a graduate of Pontiac Township High School and the University School of Beauty in Bloomington. Rosie worked the farm her entire lifetime with her husband, Jim, by her side and was a part-time beautician.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Pontiac; a member of the St. Mary’s Women’s Guild; and a longtime participant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Perpetual Adoration.
Rosie had a love of farming. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Livingston County Farm Bureau where she served on the board for over 30 years. Rosie was a very important part of and recognized for her contributions to the Illinois Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom fundraiser. In 2007, she was honored with the Livingston County Volunteer of the Year Award.
