BLOOMINGTON - Roy Sutton, 86, of 1207 N. State St., Bloomington, died 11:20 a.m. Friday (Feb. 10, 2006) at Heritage Manor, Bloomington.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the funeral at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home. The Rev. Vaughn Hoffman will officiate. Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Roy was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Carlock, the son of the late Albert Harry Sutton and the late Clara Spahn Sutton. He married Edith Phillis on May 16, 1948, in Bloomington. She died May 2, 2003.
Roy is survived by a son, Gary (Linda) Sutton, Avery, Texas; daughter, Kay (James) Atkins, Downs; daughter, Cindy Starkey, Bloomington; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Don Sutton, Santa Maria, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; one brother; and one sister.He was a retired salesman at the former Miller Music Store, where he had worked for 50 years. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington; the American Legion; the Moose; and a district representative of the Boy Scouts of America.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Roy was an avid sports fan who supported the Bloomington Purple Raiders and the Bloomington Cardinals for many years. Roy was known to many simply as "Grandpa." Roy did many volunteer activities. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by many. Roy didn't know a stranger and was always smiling.
