WELDON - Russell Vernon Followell, 69, of Katy, Texas, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 8, 2006) at a hospital in a Katy, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy Followell, Katy, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Jill (Mickey) Brown, Katy, Texas; his grandchildren, Morgan Brown, Dylan Brown and Brendan Brown; his sister, Lucille Scott, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Russell Vernon Followell was born Feb. 23, 1936, in Weldon, to John and Ida Mae Black Followell. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. He married Nancy Hanes on Aug. 3, 1958, in Warrensburg.
Russell was a member of the First Christian Church, in Paris. He was also a member of the Katy Elks Lodge in Katy, Texas, and the Kiwanis Club. Russell was a bus driver for Katy Independent School District in Katy, Texas, for many years. He enjoyed coffee and friends at Snappy's CafÂ© in Katy, Texas. He loved golfing and playing cards with his fellow Elks. It was said that he never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His greatest love was showing and bragging about his grandsons.A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Katy, Texas, with the Rev. Marlin Fenn officiating. Those wishing to make memorial gifts may do so to the Elks National Foundation, c/o Katy Elks Lodge, 1050 Katy Fort Bend Road, Katy, TX 77493, to provide scholarships for the special needs camps and student activities such as Hoop Shoot and Soccer Shoot.
