ELLSWORTH — Stephen W. “Steve” Gulley, 45, of Ellsworth, passed away at 12:19 a.m. Friday (Jan. 16, 2015) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
His graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Frankeberger Cemetery, Ellsworth. Rick Owens will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to his children’s education fund.
Steve was born Oct. 25, 1969, in Decatur, the son of Raymond and Lilly. Steve married Christy A. Pearson on March 9, 1997, in Ellsworth. She survives.
Also surviving are his two children, Zacharay Gulley and Elizabeth Gulley, both of Ellsworth; his father, Raymond (Joyce) Gulley, Arcola; mother, Lilly (Ernest) Green, Ellsworth; one sister, Sheralyn (James) Wiegand, Downs; two stepbrothers, Timothy (Cathy) Sidener, Illiopolis, and James (fiancé, Cyndi Blackburn) Sidener, Wayne, Mich.; mother-in-law, Cheryl Fife, Bloomington; two sisters-in-law, Melissa (Russell Long) Fife, Bloomington, and Samantha Pearson, Kentucky; one brother-in-law, Clint Pearson, Kentucky; nephew, Dylan Long, Bloomington; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and aunts and uncles.
Steve graduated from Tri-Valley High School in 1987 and was very active in sports at school. He received a lot of ribbons and trophies in track and held the high school record in high jump for 26 years. He also excelled in basketball and baseball. Steve was a huge NASCAR and Indianapolis Colts fan. As a bricklayer, Steve took great pride in his work and made an art out of laying brick.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at the Community Cancer Center and Advocate BroMenn Medical Center for the care and compassion shown to Steve. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
