PONTIAC — Susan Michelle Erschen, 51, rural Pontiac, went to be with the Lord on Mother’s Day (May 8, 2011), following a courageous five-year battle with breast cancer.

Cremation rites were accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cornell United Methodist Church. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Larry Frank officiating. Hagi Funeral Home, Streator, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the following organizations which she supported: Cornell United Methodist Church, Smile Train or Livingston County 4-H.

Sue was born June 10, 1959, in Streator, the daughter of Bruce and Esther Crum Bennett. Esther passed away in 1962. Bruce married Mary Egli in November of 1963, who became known as Mom to Sue.

Sue married Robert Erschen on Feb. 25, 1984, in Pontiac. He survives.

Sue graduated from Minonk-Dana-Rutland High School in 1977, where she played volleyball, basketball and softball. She was a member of the Flanagan Town and Country livestock judging team, 1975-1976. She was a dedicated employee of GTE (later Verizon, now Frontier) for 32 years, beginning as an operator and later obtaining the title of outside planning engineer.

She absolutely loved living on the farm, raising cattle and running Bob and Sue’s Christmas Tree Farm. She was a member of Cornell United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school in the past. She had also been a leader of the Cornell Classic Clovers 4-H Club and a volleyball and golf Mom, while Julie and Frank were in high school. She was a loving wife, amazing Mom and loyal friend. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Bob, rural Pontiac; one daughter, Julie Rae (Chris) Erschen Saylor, rural Gridley; one son, Frank Joseph Erschen, rural Pontiac; and one brother, Mike Bennett, Cable, Ohio; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Frank and Ethel Murphy Bennett, Richard Alva and Sarah (Berry) Crum and Rueben and Matilda Eigsti Egli; and her mother-in-law, Mildred Erschen Munson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Erschen (brother-in-law), Carl Klendworth (family friend), Donald Winterrowd (family friend), Tanner Snyder (family friend), Joe Tatman (family friend), Roger Harrison (cousin), Denny Harrison (cousin), Keith Erschen (cousin), Kevin Monk (cousin), Dick Leonard (family friend), Philip Kelly (family friend), Jim Girard (family friend) and Jonah Vissering (family friend).
