HOPEDALE — Tammy Chance, 52, Chatham, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, at 2:20 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 13, 2012). Following a 13-month battle with cancer, Tammy returned home to God, according to his plan.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham, with the Rev. Allen Miller officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the memorial home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Tamara Sue Shoopman was born Oct. 15, 1959, in Hopedale, the daughter of Norman and Sharon Shoopman. She married Todd Russell Chance on April 29, 1989, in Morton. Her son, Thomas Christopher Chance, was born July 3, 1992, in Springfield.
Tammy is survived by her husband, Todd; son, Thomas; mother, Sharon Shoopman, Hudson; sisters, Cindy (Phil) Shaffer, Lawrenceville, Ga., and Sandy (Phil) Warlow, Hudson; brother, Steve Shoopman, Wyandotte, Mich.; nephew, Nick Shaffer; niece, Jenny Shaffer; aunt, Cheryl (John) Bower; and uncle, John Wierman.
She was preceded in death by her father, Norman Shoopman; her maternal grandparents, Wilfred and Virginia Wierman; and paternal grandparents Lloyd and Selma Shoopman.
She graduated from Normal Community High School in 1977 and Illinois State University in 1980.
She worked for Eisner/Jewel food stores for 26 years in Normal, Lincoln and Springfield, until the stores closed in 2006. Tammy recently worked for County Market in Springfield for five years. She was a customer service manager for 29 years.
Tammy’s family was her world, and they, along with their friends, will always remember her as an exceptionally sweet, wonderfully loving and intensely caring daughter, sister, wife and mother.
