Tom grew up and spent most of his life in Bloomington, graduating from Holy Trinity Grade School and Central Catholic High School. He graduated from the University of Illinois and the University of Arizona College of Law and MBA program.
Tom practiced law for several years in Arizona before returning to Bloomington to spend more time with his girls, whom he raised, and to write novels and screenplays. He worked as a construction laborer while taking classes in chemistry at Illinois State University.
Expressions of condolence may be sent to his daughters at 310 Carson Meadow Drive, Apt. 25, Carson City, Nev 89702. Memorials may be made to the Jamie and Emily Engan Educational Fund, care of either Dan Deneen, 202 S. Eldorado Road, or David Penn, Laborers' Int. Union 362, P.O. Box 3248, both in Bloomington.
A memorial service will be held next summer in Bloomington. A notice will be placed in advance with The Pantagraph.
Tom was a mighty man, it took a lot to keep him down or make him unhappy. He will always be remembered as more than outstandingly spectacular father, dutiful and loving son, cherished friend, and one of the noblest people one could have stumbled across. He will be sorely missed, and remembered by all who loved him forever.
