GIBSON CITY - Tillie Sommer, 90, of 2001 Independence Drive, Pekin, formerly of Gibson City, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 7, 2005) at Pekin Manor in Pekin.

Born Oct. 26, 1915, in Meadows, a daughter of John and Magdalene Kohm Gittinger, she married Orville M. Somer on April 25, 1935, in Meadows. He died on March 17, 2002, in Pekin.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Gundy; and four brothers, John, Charles, Fred and William Gittinger.

Surviving are one daughter, Gale (Earl) Seamands, Mahomet; two sons, Doug (Jo) Sommer, Pekin, and Terry (Marcy) Sommer, Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren, Janet (Mark) Talbott, Bloomington; Todd (Lisa) Sommer, Clinton; Eric (Rebecca) Seamands, Zionsville, Ind.; Tiffany (Tom) Loew, White Heath; Kimberly Sommer, Cleveland, Ohio; and Kelly Sommer, Pekin; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marie (Delmar) Bradley, Las Vegas.

She and her husband farmed in Gibson City from 1938 to 1966 before moving to Pekin. While in Gibson City, she was the longtime organist at First Christian Church.

Tillie worked at Tassart's Ace Hardware in Pekin from 1979 to 1980 as a clerk.

She was an active member of First Christian Church in Pekin, where she was a member of Christian Women's Fellowship. Tillie formerly was a member of the adult choir and a pianist for the cherub choir.

She enjoyed her family, flower gardening and homemaking. She also assisted her husband with Sommer Tours.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Pekin. The Rev. Steve Bridwell will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
