Velda F. Sancken, 101, of Pontiac, died 12:30 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 9, 2017) at Pointe of Pontiac.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Her memorial service will be at a later date at First Lutheran Church, Pontiac, with the Revs. Tim Hubert and Gretchen Stinebaugh officiating. Inurnment will be in Five Mile Cemetery, Saunemin. Memorials in Velda’s name may be made to First Lutheran Church, Pontiac, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac, is handling arrangements.
Velda was born June 13, 1916, in Owego Township, a daughter of George and Grace Lee Todd. She married Alva S. Sancken on Feb. 21, 1935, in Cullom. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris (Roger) Worthington, Princeville; six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Carla) Worthington, Bradley (Cindy) Worthington, Douglas (Diana) Worthington, Carrie Lee Worthington, Jamie (Ben) Hafele and Jay (Deann) Moran; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Velda was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Moran, and one sister, Esther Bammann.
Velda was educated in rural schools and was a 1934 graduate of Saunemin High School. She was a sales clerk for over 50 years in downtown Pontiac; her last employment was at Holiday House. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Pontiac, where she was a former member of Anna Circle and quilting ladies of the church. She was a former member of Zonta Club and Ladies of the Moose.
