GRIDLEY - Virgil G. Haas, 75, of 28483 N. County Road, 1925 East, rural Gridley and formerly of El Paso, died 12:32 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 4, 2006) at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Calvert & Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso, with the Rev. Wes Ooms officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, El Paso. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the memorial home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association.
Mr. Haas was born June 10, 1930, in Marquette, Wis., the son of Frank J. and Lillian Gibbs Haas of El Paso. He married Lois Weaver on July 29, 1951, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, El Paso. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Merlin Haas of El Paso, and Gary Haas of rural Gridley; two daughters, Susan (Dr. Charles) Proesel of rural Towanda, and Linda Haas of El Paso; two brothers, Lawrence (Lilly Ann) Haas of rural El Paso, and Thomas (Dorothy) Haas of Verona; one brother-in-law, George Steinhilber of Minonk; and four grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Proesel, and Brad and Joshua Hamel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Martha Steinhilber.
Mr. Haas attended El Paso schools. He and his wife were grain and hog farmers in the El Paso and Gridley areas for 45 years before retiring. He had lived south of Gridley since 1973. He also worked at Hart-Carter Co. in Gridley during the 1970s.
He was a member of the Woodford Co. Farm Bureau for over 50 years. His hobbies included tracking the weather and keeping a weather log, watching Cubs baseball on TV, and his family.
