HOPEDALE — Warren “Ace” Martin, 90, of Hopedale, passed away at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 27, 2015) at Hopedale Hospital.
He was born March 24, 1924, in Hopedale, to Aaron and Mary Wittrig Martin. He married Dorene Daugherty on Aug. 30, 1943, in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Dan (Tina) Martin, Memphis, Tenn.; six daughters, Tina (Ron) Strunk, Fairhope, Ala.; Jean (Jerry) Patee, Pensacola, Fla.; Teresa Bromley, Pittsburg, Pa.; Debra Gill, Orlando, Fla.; Kathy Kearns, Hopedale; and Julie (Kenny) Parsons, Pensacola, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Larry (Joyce) Martin, Orange Lake, Fla.; and one sister, Edith Weaver, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Heather Gill; three brothers; four sisters; one half sister; one infant brother; and one infant sister.
Warren worked for Steak 'n Shake for 42 years, retiring in 1986. He then worked part time for Eilts Electric in Hopedale for several years.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the South Pacific, attaining the rank of aviation machinist’s mate first class.
He was a member of Minier Christian Church. He was a member of Moose Lodge, Delavan Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason of Scottish Rite Valley of Peoria.
Warren enjoyed square dancing, traveling throughout the U.S. and overseas, and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Minier Christian Church. The Rev. Norv Condy will officiate. A Masonic service will be at 9:15 a.m. Saturday followed by visitation from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, both at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the service, with burial of ashes at a later date in Orndorff Cemetery, Hopedale. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home, Hopedale, is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heart of Illinois Down Syndrome Organization or Minier Christian Church.
