COLFAX — Wayne E. Sutton, 89, Colfax, formerly of El Paso, died peacefully Thursday night (May 12, 2011) at Asta Care Center of Coflax.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, El Paso. Father Roger Corpus will officiate. Military honors will be provided by El Paso American Legion Post 59 and L. Percy Tucker VFW Post 6026.
Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax, is in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Lyle R. Sutton Memorial Scholarship Fund of Ridgeview High School, in care of Anchor State Bank, Anchor, IL 61720.
Wayne was born July 10, 1921, in El Paso, the eighth of nine children of James and Maude Stephens Sutton. He married Marge Fullenberger of El Paso. She died April 18, 1998.
He is survived by brother, Robert, Troy, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Raymond and Lyle; four sisters, Josephine, Marjorie, Evelyn and Catherine; and his parents.
Wayne was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army’s 1st Division (Big Red One—26th Infantry) and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and several other commendations for valor in action during the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a lifelong member of American Legion Post 59, El Paso; the L. Percy Tucker VFW Post 6026; and Disabled American Veterans.
