BLOOMINGTON — William H. “Bill” Goeke, 88, of Bloomington died at 5:19 a.m. Saturday (March 6, 2010) at the Heartland Health Care Center, Normal.

His funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 1920 E. Oakland Ave., Bloomington. Father David Halt will officiate. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Bloomington, with military rites accorded by the Carl S. Martin Post No. 635 Normal and Bloomington American Legion Post No. 56 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Bloomington; Illinois Special Olympics; or Toys For Tots U.S. Marines.

Bill was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Batesville, Ark., the son of Henry and Martha Hicks Goeke. He married Victoria “Vicki” Iezzi on March 30, 1949, in Dearborn, Mich. She died Oct. 11, 2000.

Survivors include two children, Julianne (James) Cooper, Bloomington; and John M. (Jane) Goeke, High Point, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Rachael Kimmerling, Bloomington; Morgan Kimmerling, Bloomington; and Erin and Jacob William Goeke, High Point, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter and his brothers and sisters.

Bill was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Bloomington. He received his bachelor’s degree from Duke University in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at State Farm Insurance as an executive assistant for more than 30 years. He retired in 1987 from the Fire & Casualty Company. After retirement, he and Vicki enjoyed many years on the North Carolina coast. He was an avid golfer. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to thank the staff at Luther Oaks for the care given to Bill. He will be missed by all who knew him.
