HEYWORTH - William David McCoy, 57, of 504 W. Kenneth St., Heyworth, died at 5:40 p.m. Monday (April 10, 2006) at his residence.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Heyworth First Baptist Church, Heyworth. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Riverside Baptist Church, Decatur. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur. East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
David was born Aug. 15, 1948, in Charleston, W.Va., a son of Earl and Marshaline Hinzman McCoy. They preceded him in death. He married Darleta Gay Wright on Nov. 29, 1969, in Chattanooga, Tenn. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Earl "Buddy" McCoy, Macon, Ga.; two daughters, Becky Lyons, Heyworth, and Nanelle (J.J.) Hairston, Decatur; grandchildren, Courtney, Darla and Dalton McCoy, Lakeland, Fla.; Molly and Maggie McCoy, Macon, Ga.; Alyssa Lyons, Heyworth; and Crisse and Calle Hairston, Decatur; and three sisters, Patty (Lester) Phinney, Maryville, Tenn.; Helen Wright, Johnson City, Tenn.; and Linda (Wayne) Hand, Hazlehurst, Ga. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
David graduated in theology from Tennessee Temple University in 1975. He began pastoring in Lafayette, Ga.; Cullman, Ala.; and Wharton, W.Va.
He then accepted the call to pastor at Bethel Baptist Church in Moline and First Baptist Church of Fulton for more than 13 years. Locally, David pastored at Oreana Baptist Church for seven years and currently was pastor of Heyworth First Baptist Church.
He has been a funeral assistant at Dawson-Wicoff Funeral Home in Decatur and currently at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington.
David retired from Decatur Christian School in 2005 after 12 years of service.
He is a member of Central Baptist Association.
David was the world's greatest husband, father and grandfather. He will be truly missed by all his parishioners and friends. We all know we will see him again someday.
