BLOOMINGTON — William E. “Bill” Thoms, 87, of Bloomington died at 10:42 p.m. Thursday (April 26, 2012) at Bloomington Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
His funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Monsignor Douglas Hennessy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry or Holy Trinity Church, Bloomington.
Bill was born July 15, 1924, in Bloomington, the son of Albert C. and Helen O’Neil Thoms.
He is survived by a sister, Helen Thoms, Bloomington; eight nieces and nephews; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John C. Thoms; and a sister, Eleanor Yeagle.
Bill graduated from Bloomington High School. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in Europe as an M.P.
Bill worked at Springle Grocery Store for many years and later was a mail clerk for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post 454, Bloomington.
Bill was a loving brother, uncle and great-uncle and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
