BLOOMINGTON — Twin City residents will get a chance to see the Track Renewal Train in action as it works its way from south Bloomington through Normal this spring and early summer.
The TRT will be used to upgrade the tracks through Bloomington and up to Fell Avenue in uptown Normal; then north from Beech Street.
The stretch between Fell and Beech will be done by work crews, rather than the TRT. Uptown Development Director Wayne Aldrich expects the bulk of the uptown work to be done in June.
Mark Davis, director of corporate relations and media for the Northern Region of Union Pacific Railroad, said the TRT likely will be in the Pontiac area in June and around Dwight in July.
The track work is the first of two phases. Davis said the second phase is construction of a second track along the line. There is no timetable for that project.
