PONTIAC — Police continue to investigate the circumstances involved in teh death of a 48-year-old Pontiac man, who was killed Thursday morning after being hit by a car.
Livingston County Coroner Mike Burke said Edward Eilts was walking north in the southbound turn lane of Old Route 66, just north of Illinois 23 in Pontiac, when he was struck by a southbound car.
The accident happened at 6:15 a.m. and remains under investigation by Pontiac police and Illinois State Police.
It is the second area pedestrian fatality in the last week.
On Tuesday, Benjamin Allison, 20, a student at Illinois State University, died of injuries suffered when he was hit by a car in uptown Normal on Saturday. Criminal charges have been filed against the driver in that case.
