BLOOMINGTON — A man died Saturday afternoon after a van struck his motorcycle near the intersection of Main Street and Macarthur Avenue, Bloomington police said.

The van driver then fled the scene on foot. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 309-820-8888. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers of McLean County at 309-828-1111. A suspect description was not available.

Bloomington police closed the area to traffic, including the intersections of Main and Wood streets and Macarthur and Center Street.

The name of the motorcycle rider has not been released. McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder said an autopsy will be conducted Sunday.

Police were called about 3:40 p.m. after the van, eastbound on Macarthur, hit the northbound motorcyclist. Emergency responders took the motorcyclist to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, where he was later pronounced dead.
