NORMAL — Normal police continue to investigate a motorcycle crash that left one man dead.

About 1:45 p.m. Thursday, the rider, whose name has not yet been released, was traveling north on Pipeline Road, just north of Interstate 55, when he left the road and struck a utility pole, witnesses told police.

Emergency responders transported him to a hospital “where lifesaving measures were unsuccessful,” according to a news release from Normal police Chief Rick Bleichner.

The driver was the only person on the motorcycle at the time of the crash and no other vehicles were involved.

Northbound Pipeline Road was closed to traffic for about six hours from the I-55 on-ramp to Northtown Road as a police crash reconstruction unit worked at the scene.

The crash is under investigation by Normal police and the McLean County Coroner's Office.
