McLEAN — A woman drowned Friday morning after her car rolled into a pond along the northbound lane of Interstate 55 near McLean, south of Bloomington.

McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder confirmed the death to The Pantagraph. She identified the woman as Adrienne L. McNeil, 29, of Rochester.

Yoder said McNeil died of drowning after her northbound car hit another car and then went into a retention pond.

No injuries were reported from the second vehicle. Yoder's office was notified at 7:45 a.m.

The incident occurred near an entrance ramp north of the overpass where I-55 crosses Route 136.

Traffic was restricted for several hours.

Dive team members and a tow truck driver helped pull the car to shore.  Yoder worked with state police and McLean County Sheriff's Department deputies. Illinois Department of Transportation workers erected flashing lights and barricades to direct traffic.
