BLOOMINGTON — A Springfield man has been identified as the victim of a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 55 on Bloomington's southwest edge late Monday night.
John Brillhart, 45, was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m., said McLean County Coroner Kathy Davis.
"He died from multiple blunt injuries due to a sports utility vehicle crash, reportedly sustained as the driver of the vehicle that left the roadway at a high rate of speed," Davis said Tuesday afternoon.
Police were called about 10:52 p.m. to the scene where the SUV rolled over, landed on its wheels and caught fire in the median near mile marker 156, which is just south of where I-55 and I-74 split.
Illinois State Police troopers, McLean County sheriff's deputies and Bloomington and Bloomington Township firefighters and emergency medical personnel assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the state police.
