Details of what happened on a school bus in which a Bloomington Junior High School student was apparently attacked by another will be determined in court.

The bus driver has been charged with aggravated battery for allegedly encouraging the attack and not doing enough to stop it.

But we don't need to wait for court proceedings to praise the actions of several students on the bus.

Based on a camera that recorded audio and video, students tried to tell the bus driver that a 14-year-old later involved in the attack did not belong on the bus.

A student refused to block the view of the camera and left the bus at her stop.

Another student pulled the 14-year-old off the 12-year-old who was being hit, according to accounts of those who viewed the videotape.

In an era when people - including many adults - decline to get involved when a possible crime occurs, these children should be commended for coming to the aid of a fellow student.
