Local firefighters and police endorsed Tari Renner for mayor, and Renner has my vote, too. He's an experienced insider with an outsider's determination that we can and should do better.
I've known Tari for 15 years, and he knows government because he teaches it at Illinois Wesleyan. He's used his knowledge to make our community better by serving three terms on the McLean County Board, where he's been a budgetary watchdog.
At a time when the city just realized it had a $5.2 million hole in its budget and the current mayor was as surprised as anyone, we need someone able to provide strong financial leadership.
Another candidate favors cutting taxes, but the solution lies in responsible growth and spending. Renner opposed spending millions of taxpayer dollars on an outdated 911 analog system, and he supports a debt ceiling for Bloomington government.
Renner for mayor isn't a slogan; it's a need.
