Anything that the current administration does should come as no surprise to anyone. Their list is impressive. From the campaign of misinformation that led us into a war with Iraq, to the abject failure of the HSA and FEMA to respond to the catastrophes in Louisiana and Mississippi, to the disclosure that President Bush has authorized possibly illegal wiretaps of American citizens, in the name of national security, and everything in between.
The surprises, however, continue. And the latest revelation is a real stunner! The Bush administration has OK'd a $6.8 billion sale that gives Dubai Ports World, a company from within the United Arab Emirates - which includes countries with distinct ties to terrorists - control over six major American ports, after its purchase of London-based Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., which had those responsibilities.
How insane is this? The track record our government has with handling and reacting to intelligence, especially as it pertains to national security, is ,to say the least, not inspiring. Now they want to let our ports be run by a company from an extremely unstable part of the world, which possibly has ties to the same people that perpetrated the 9/11 tragedy? Talk about giving away the keys to the kingdom!
And we are supposed to take their word for it that this is in our nation's best interests? Ya, right. Just like we were supposed to take their word for it that we needed to go to war with Iraq over their possession of WMD!
What is next? Maybe we'll see Mexico's President Vicente Fox be appointed head of the Immigration Naturalization Service, and be the one to administer President Bush's guest-worker amnesty program!
