As a taxpayer, I am outraged that over $1,000 will go toward what appears to be an attempt to keep Judy Stearns, my elected alderman, off the Bloomington City Council. My own money will now be spent to attempt to effectively nullify my vote.
As an American, I am in disbelief that the City Council would not defend a legal and proper election. Except for Steven Purcell, these elected representatives failed to uphold government by the people. They are, in my view, violating their oath to support the U.S. Constitution.
These are the values that U.S. soldiers have died to defend. And for what? I have seen not one shred of evidence that Judy Stearns did anything wrong. Like all of us, she paid the tax bill she got, and it has never been the citizen’s job to correct the tax bill. That is up to the supervisor of assessments. Period.
She never got a bill for anything past due, so what is the real issue here?
Stearns called for a bid on Rimco, the self-insurance company costing over $1 million per year too much when it was wildly unpopular to do so. She’s asked great questions, voted against the taxes and fees hurting Bloomington’s seniors, and this is her reward. Citizens have no idea what is going on at city hall.
