We were extremely pleased when Martin Cohen, former Citizens Utility Board executive director, was selected by Gov. Rod Blagojevich to be appointed chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission. Then we discover our state legislators rejected him. It appears the utilities have control of our legislative system. Had Mr. Cohen been appointed, the consumer would have been assured of fair treatment.
Bill Brady, state senator from Bloomington, voted against Mr. Cohen. This is very disappointing. I hope that people who are concerned about the high price of electricity and gas will remember how Mr. Brady voted during the next election.
Sen. Dan Rutherford voted for Mr. Cohen, as did Sen. Steve Rauschenberger. There is list on the Citizens Utility Board Web site showing how our legislators voted.
