East-side highway would be detrimental

  • 0

The east-side highway is so-called solution to a nonexistent problem. Is the creation of the highway meant to serve the citizens of Bloomington-Normal or the commercial traffic of the Midwest?

There are multiple current options available to travel through Central Illinois and connect to the markets of Chicago and St. Louis. The local traffic on Veterans Parkway has no positive relationship to a new highway connecting two major interstates for multistate travel.

This highway would be a detriment to the expansion of the city to the east, an environmental and economical liability to many and a waste of funding for the state and federal government.
