Since state funding has decreased dramatically in the past three years, this seems to have shifted the funding burden more from the state to local control. The school facility tax looks to be a reliable funding source for the maintenance and renovation of those capital expenses that go toward the upkeep and expansion for school district facilities.
This should provide a way to protect current and future investments without further burdening property owners. The school facility tax will provide a stable income that is paid for by shoppers in all of McLean County including visitors and tourists with 37% of this revenue predicted to be generated by people who do not live or own property here.
I favor voting for the facilities tax which should help reduce property taxes and provide a low impact revenue source equal to all tax payers and paid for by consumers across the board.
