Have you seen the flags? Evergreen Cemetery has the flags flying, and it is so beautiful to see. It takes four men all day to put these flags up with name tags. They take them down again and store them for the winter in the order that they go up. I just love to drive down Lincoln Street to see the flags flying.
They are giving shuttle tours on Memorial Day. It is free to anyone who would like to know a little more about the cemetery.
The cost to the family of a veteran who wants a flag flown with a name tag is $112 for the pole to display the flag and the flag. It is cheaper if you fly the veteran’s flag, but that is not recommended, as over time they will be destroyed with the weather.
We have a flag flying there for our father who served in the Navy in 1941-45. It is so great to know that he is still being remembered for what he did for our country along with several other hundred people whose flags are flying there. There could be more if people knew what it was about. Thank you for letting me express my thoughts.
