It is a shame that the best the Republicans can provide to replace Tom DeLay is Rep. John Boehner. In his 37-page plea to become majority leader, Boehner stated that Democrats "were so committed to increasing federal spending they tried to impeach the sitting president for not spending enough." These comments referred to the year 1974 and the president in question was Richard M. Nixon.
As most Americans know Nixon was impeached and ultimately forced to resign because of the Watergate burglary and eventual cover-up, not his spending policies. Choke his comments up to the usual revisionist history Republicans try to write everyday.
If John Boehner is truly concerned about spending and fiscal responsibility, he may want to investigate the unchecked spending practices of the current administration and the record-setting deficits that have been created as a result of the so-called GOP policy of “fiscal responsibility."
