'Jake' belongs with owner's parents

I was Tyler Harris next-door neighbor. I remember when he got his dog, Jake, ("Dog at center of custody dispute," Page A1, Jan. 30). Jake was like Tyler's child. Everywhere Tyler went Jake went, if possible. If Tyler was outside, Jake was right next to him. He is the best dog, and would not leave his yard, unless he had permission. If Tyler was not able to come home for lunch to let him out, his mother and father did. Everyday I go home for lunch to let my dogs out, and would speak to Tyler or his parents. If Tyler had to be gone for a while, they took care of Jake. Tyler's mom even spoke of Jake as her "granddog," and proudly. They love him very much.

Everyone who knows the family knew they were very close and supportive of each other. Jake has a wonderful home again, with a nice yard and two people who care for him very much. I think it is very sad this has gotten this far. I am a great animal lover, and support animal shelters, especially no-kill such as TAPS.

If anyone has adopted an animal from the Humane Society, beware if you die! Will they come and take your dog from your family members? I would think the Humane Society would be happy that Jake is in a home where he is being well cared for by people who have known him and cared for him the longest. I hope any of you considering adoption keep this in mind. It is sad that animals might not go to good homes because of this. There are other shelters out there. Let us hope the judicial system works again, and Jake can stay at home.
