National outrage was raised by the feds approving $250 million for a bridge labeled “a bridge to nowhere.” At least they were going to get a bridge.

Local (Bloomington-Normal) city council members and the (McLean) County Board recently gifted $25 million to the owners of the wind farm to be built in McLean County.  Goldman Sachs is a $7.4 billion dollar corporation, reporting profits of $740 million.  This 3-foot extension of the enterprise zone, if done at a national level, would be a $45 billion tax giveaway!

I am astounded that our local representatives would unanimously give away tax revenue, in view of the state of Illinois grave financial condition. I am totally in favor of the wind farm, but the reality is the state will raise fees and taxes for all the rest of us given the budget shortfall.

A good business person would have extracted some concessions while gifting $25 milllion. To my knowledge, all the equipment will be imported from overseas, and out of state contractors will be doing the construction.  So I ask what did your elected officials receive for our $25 million?

Wake up taxpayers!  The Bloomington City Council was ready to spend $128,000 for a no-bid contract to lease Steinway pianos. The Town of Normal spent over $57,000 on property it sold for $1.  Look at their Web sites, go to council meetings, talk to your elected officials, vote. If not for you, do it for your children and grandchildren.
