Laws designed to protect all drivers

I have to wonder just how old Jasmine is who feels the laws are screwed up because she has to wear a seat belt and buy insurance, ("Some traffic laws need to be changed," YourViews, Dec. 20).

Seems that Jasmine would like to not be accountable for herself when it comes to driving.

I agree that Jasmine can make her own choice not to wear a seat belt if she chooses, as long as she is accountable for the consequences that result from that choice. Somehow, I doubt Jasmine has the financial resources to do without insurance, as is the case with most of us.

When it comes to insurance, I certainly hope that Jasmine will not expect the taxpayer to pay for any of her medical bills should she get in an accident with another uninsured driver and hope she is saving big time. God forbid she hurt someone while she is driving without insurance.

The law is designed to protect the rest of us and taxpayers from the uninsured.
